In India, elder means full of respect by heart as well as pretty actions. we use to give greeting our elder as a Namaste and touching feet of theirs. these qualities in the children parents filling since the birth of a child. not only in India but all worldwide these qualities filling in the children by their parents. but nowadays these precious qualities are fading day by day.this is 15 June and every year since the first celebration in 2012 in new york( HQ of UN), this day is celebrated as the world elder abuse awareness day(WEAAD) for protecting and improving the quality of life our elders. World Elder Abuse Awareness Day was started by the International Network for the Prevention of Elder Abuse and the World Health Organization at the United Nations.
The mission of WEAAD is to grant an opportunity for societies around the world to promote a better understanding of abuse and neglect of older persons by boosting awareness of the social, cultural, economic and demographic processes affecting elder abuse and neglect.

the theme for WEAAD 2020 is “Building Strong Supports for Elders.”as we all know during COVID-19 pandemic, how our elder population who above 50 in age are in a very dangerous situation because elder gets easily suffer by COVID-19.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, there have been various reports of abuse and neglect of elder people living in long-term care facilities and other social helping community settings, but also of those living with family members or in their personal homes with caregivers. in this hazardous time elders have a totally unwealthy situation.
Over 15% of people over the age of 60 in the WHO European Region, approximately 30 million people, were estimated to be affected by some form of abuse last year. While it is too early to have robust, updated data for 2020, it is believed that abuse towards older people has risen significantly during the COVID-19 pandemic. On World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, WHO/Europe calls for urgent, whole-of-government action to protect older people against violence, abuse and neglect. Let us work together o optimize living conditions for older persons and enable them to make the greatest possible contribution to our world.” UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon (this text is taken from United Nations' official website)elders are much important for individually all of us. we have to take care of them, don't go out of your home and find a poor old one and try to help him/her. keep in mind every home have a pair of old persons, the best example is our golden parents. so if you really want to help elders, break the ice from your home.
it is noticed, In many parts of the world elder abuse occurs with little attention or acknowledgement. Until recently, this serious social problem was shielded from the public view and recognised mostly a private matter. Even today, elder abuse continues to be a ban, mostly underestimated and ignored by communities across the world. Evidence is expanding, however, to symbolise that elder abuse is an important public health and societal problem.
poor elders suffer everywhere in this world as the following report by the UN. the elder suffers in both types of countries developed or under developing. like the USA as well as India there is full of high cases of this problem.
at last but not least take care of your golden close elders keep loving your parents no matter how old they are younger, older or 90s.
