Kargil Vijay Diwas is celebrated every year on 26 July in India. On Kargil Vijay Diwas, we remember the valour and sacrifice of the brave soldiers of the Indian Army.

In the Kargil War in 1999, the Indian Army had killed the Pakistani army on the battlefield. This Kargil War lasted for 60 days and on 26 July 1999, India defeated Pakistan, which was named Operation Vijay. Many Indian Army soldiers were martyred in achieving this victory. Therefore, the Government of India decided that on 26 July every year, Kargil Vijay Diwas should be celebrated as the Indian Army's Day of Valour.

The main point of discussion in the Kargil War was Tiger Hill in the Dras-Kargil area of ​​Jammu and Kashmir, which was captured by Pakistani intruders. This hill was of strategic importance as it is the highest peak of the region, so it could have targeted any movement from the Indian side at the top. It also gave them a full view of the 56 Brigade Headquarters and was able to inform Pakistani troops across the border. The summit ignores 1D National Highway, which is the lifeline of India. NH1 is a strategic route to the Siachen Glacier and connects Srinagar to Leh in Ladakh. Having a full opinion about NH1, Pakistanis were allowed to observe the movements of troops and supplies by Indian forces and even open fire on them.

The area of ​​Kashmir is mountainous with high and narrow roads. Based on more than 130 observation posts, Pakistani forces had the advantage of a clear line-of-sight on NH1, which could lead to an accidental accident. Since Pakistan had occupied these positions and infiltrated into India, Indian troops had to return to their camps and posts to monitor the movement of the intruders. The control of Tiger Hill would have given India the vantage point to attack Pakistani targets in Mushko and surrounding peaks.

During the whole Kargil war, Indian troops suffer from lots of problems. but, the final targeted by the Indian army was to recapture the peaks which directly helps to view on NH1. it was crystal cleared by the Indian troops to first grab the tiger hill and Tololing complex in Dras, followed by the Batalik-Turtok sub-sector which provided access to Siachen Glacier.


After a 3 attack, soldiers on a reorganized Tiger Hill left Pakistan in shock. The attack was launched by 18 grenadiers during a night operation. The Indian Air Force also carried out destructive airstrikes on two enemy camps which were located on top of the Tiger Hill, hugely reducing the ability of intruders.

In a three-story attack, Indian artillery began firing at Tiger Hill, while 18 grenadiers, 2 nagas, and 8 Sikhs from the Indian Army attacked the Pakistani Army for the toughest climb on a hill, which was around 1000 feet high. The enemy, who was under fire with Indian artillery, was completely surprised by the multidirectional attack by the Indian troops.

The Government of India responded with Operation Vijay, a mobilization of 200,000 Indian troops. The war came to an official end on July 26, 1999, thus marking it as Kargil Vijay Diwas. in end, 527 soldiers from Indian Armed Forces lost their lives during the war.
