International Lefthanders Day or “World Left Handers Day” or “Lefthanders day” observed every year on 13th August. First Lefthanders day celebrated in 1976 by Dean R Campbell, founder of the Left-Handers International Inc. 

From scissors to knives and many more things, Left-Handers are the brunt of jokes all year long for multiple different objects. But this is the day to ignore that all things who prefer righty mind always and bring awareness to all the right-handed people around the globe in celebration of LeftHanders Day.

International Left Hander's Day was organised to mark sinistrality and spread awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed in a predominantly right-handed world. Lefthanders day celebrates left-handed people’s uniqueness and differences in the world and tries to enhance the best quality of lefthanders. there are 7 to 10 per cent population exist as lefthanders over the globe. which is around 708 million of the total population.

  • we all know these personalities,  Presidents Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton and Barack Obama were all left-handed.
  • Other names Paul McCartney or Jimi Hendrix, the world’s greatest left-handed guitarist. 
  •  There is also Oprah Winfrey,  Julia Roberts and Lady Gaga, Amitabh Bachchan left-handers all. 

In the fields of sports--

  • In baseball, there were the legendary “southpaws,  Babe Ruth and Sandy Koufax.
  • In Football, a very famous and legendary personality, Lionel Messi from Argentina.

Celebration

you can celebrate Lefthanders day in various forms like learning how to throw a ball from the left hand, use scissors from the left hand which is always designed with respect to the right-handed person, use knives from left hand which also formed in the vision of righty, sit on the desk which normally formed for right-handed children and work as a lefty, use the coffee mugs by the left hand which is also made with respect to right-handed. Encourage them by showing these actions and face the problem for only one day, which is lefty faced every day. Even technical things also favour righty mind like Computer mouse.

A study published by Yale researchers in 2013 claimed that people with psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia are more likely to be left-handed than those with depression.

Lefthanders or Left-handed people may experience so-called periodic limb movement disorder (PLMD), means they normally hit their arms and legs while asleep.

According to neuroscientists, about 98 per cent of right-handers are left-brained — but around 70 per cent of left-handers also left-brained.

In every sport, lefty or lefthanders gives their extraordinary performance. It is the best uniqueness of them. They have a very special and good advantage of being a lefty with respect to every sport. Like football, basketball, cricket etc.

But in baseball,  As listed on the Baseball-Reference website, 14 of the top 20 highest career batting averages in Major League Baseball belong to left-handed hitters.

History

According to Official website Lefthandersday, On 13th August 1992, the Club launched International Left-Handers Day, an annual event when left-handers everywhere can celebrate their sinistrality and increase public awareness of the advantages and disadvantages of being left-handed. This event is now celebrated worldwide, and in the U.K. alone there have been more than 20 regional events to mark the day in recent years – including left-v-right sports matches, a left-handed tea party, pubs using left-handed corkscrews where patrons drank and played pub games with the left hand only, and nationwide “Lefty Zones” where left-handers creativity, adaptability and sporting prowess were celebrated, whilst right-handers were encouraged to try out everyday left-handed objects to see just how awkward it can feel using the wrong equipment!

These developments have contributed to nothing more than a general awareness of the difficulties and frustrations of left-handed experience in day to day life, and have successfully developed product design and given more consideration to our needs by the majority of right-handers like I mentioned above most of the objects which formed by the mind of righty.
